# audio/volume Get or set the master playback gain. The device-wide gain scales every voice and push stream (individual `:volume` values still apply on top). ## Syntax

[audio/volume]
[audio/volume level]

## Parameters - `level` — gain 0.0–1.0; outside values are clamped (optional — omit to read) ## Examples

[audio/volume]       # → current master gain (default 1.0)
[audio/volume 0.5]   # → 0.5

## Returns number — the master gain after the call. The value is remembered across `audio/quit` and applied when a device next opens. ## See Also `audio/play`, `audio/tone`, `audio/pause`
