# deref Get the current value of a ref cell (an anonymous ref or a `[var x]` binding cell). ## Syntax

[deref $a]

## Parameters - `$a` — A ref cell. ## Examples

def counter [ref 0]
[deref $counter]    # 0
[reset! $counter 5]
[deref $counter]    # 5
