# pkg/fetch Download a package tarball without installing. ## Syntax

[pkg/fetch $id ?$version]

## Parameters - `$id` — `"owner/name"` package id - `$version` — optional version string (defaults to `"latest"`) ## Examples

[pkg/fetch "deft/editor"]
await [pkg/fetch "deft/editor" "1.2.0"]   # HTTP registry returns a Future

## Returns For local `virt-pkg`: the tarball as a string (bytes). For HTTP registries: a Future that resolves to `%{ :status :body }`. ## See Also `pkg/install`, `pkg/install-bytes`, `pkg/info`
