# tui/pop-out
Pop a panel out into its own OS window. The app keeps its runtime, focus, taskbar identity, and panel id; dock it back with `tui/dock-back` or the window's ↙ button.
## Syntax
[tui/pop-out] [tui/pop-out ?panel-id-or-tag]
## Parameters
- `panel-id-or-tag` — number id or string tag (optional, default: the calling panel)
## Examples
[tui/pop-out] # this app's panel [tui/pop-out "editor"] # another panel by tag
## Returns
bool — true when the pop request was queued for the host main loop. False when no workspace is attached, pop-out is unavailable on the host (`retra`, `hydra`), the target can't be resolved, is already popped, isn't a leaf, or has no app thread. Popping the last grid panel is refused by the main loop.
