# compress/gzip Gzip-compress bytes using a stored-block deflate stream. Returns compressed bytes. ## Syntax

[compress/gzip $bytes]

## Parameters - `$bytes` — Input data (string) to compress ## Examples

[compress/gzip "hello world"]
[compress/gzip $file-contents]

## Returns String of gzip-encoded bytes (RFC 1952 container), or `%Err{ message "..." }` on failure. Output is valid gzip; the encoder uses stored deflate blocks so files compress correctly but not optimally. ## See Also `compress/gunzip`, `compress/tgz-create`, `compress/tar-create`
